The learning assistance center was developed to enhance one of the most critical aspects of the learning process: active participation by the student. The purpose of the LAC is to facilitate simulated nursing practice, to promote critical thinking, support remediation and to utilize advanced technology to assist in the learning process.
The Learning Assistance Center is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. The Learning Assistance Center allows students to practice skills or review learning materials in a well-equipped and supervised environment.
The lab is environmentally comfortable and simulates a patient room in a hospital. Both faculty members and students can initiate remediation requests to enhance specific skills or deficiencies.
In addition to hi-fidelity simulation equipment operated by faculty members, the LAC consists of multiple learning enhancement tools: audio and video learning tools simulation equipment, including Sim-min, Sim-Baby and Vital Sim low--fidelity mannequins, teachable torso-body intravenous therapy practice tool and supplies camcorders and bedside computer models for skills and competencies are simulated in compliance with hospital settings.
Work study students are available for issuing and monitoring the use of supplies. They also provide assistance to the faculty on a scheduled basis.
